The Institute of Civil and Commercial Law is mainly engaged in research and teaching of civil and commercial law and intellectual property law. The Institute has 19 faculty members, including Professor Qu Sanqiang, Vice President of the China Intellectual Property Law Research Society and President of the Beijing Intellectual Property Law Research Society.

The Institute of Civil and Commercial Law has outstanding strength in the research of Intellectual Property and Property Law. The Institute has undertaken the significant project of National Social Science Foundation of China “Research on Major Issues of the Reform of the Management System of Military Operational Assets”, the general project of National Social Science Foundation of China “Research on the Conflict of Norms and Legislation Configuration of Property Law”, and the youth project of National Social Science Foundation of China “Research on the Improvement of the Sub-rule System of Tort Liability of the Civil Code”. In addition, the Institute has undertaken a number of research projects, such as the General Project of Humanities and Social Sciences Research of e Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Key Project of Beijing Municipal Social Science Foundation, and has been actively involved in the research on the legislation of the various sub-components of the Civil Code of China.

The Institute of Civil and Commercial Law has published numerous monograph s, including “Intellectual Property Law in China”, “Modern European and Chinese Contract Law: A comparative study of party autonomy”, and “信託における忠実の展開と機能”. The institution has edited a number of textbooks, such as “Civil Law”, “Civil Law Case Tutorials” and “Overview of Intellectual Property Law”. The Institute has also published a number of papers in journals such as Peking University Law Journal, Politics and Law Forum, and Law Science.

The Institute of Civil and Commercial Law offers a number of courses for doctoral, master's and undergraduate students, and has guided students to participate in the “ ‘BSFU-WANHUIDA Cup’ Intellectual Property Law English Moot Court Competition”, the “Beijing Moot Court Competition for University Students”, and the “National Copyright Essay Competition”, and won the championship.
