Beijing Institute of Technology established undergraduate legal education in 1994 and officially founded the School of Law in 2008. “Riding the wind, soaring upwards,” Relying on the disciplinary advantages of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), the School of Law adheres to the approach that disciplines with legal characteristics drive the overall development of mainstream disciplines, and strives for comprehensive development with a solid foundation. In recent years, according to the national key strategic needs and the BIT’s “Double World-Class Project” construction plan, the School of Law focuses on the construction of the BIT Academy of Air and Space Policy and Law, Lab for AI & Law, Key lab of MIIT and the Institute of International Disputes Prevention and Settlement, which drives the coordinated development of the disciplines of International Law, Civil and Commercial Law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Procedural Law, Environmental Law, and other disciplines.

“Cultivate talents of more kinds than one.” The School of Law of BIT innovates the mode of cultivating legal talents and improves the quality of talents based on teaching characteristics. The school emphasizes the intersection and integration of national defense technology, artificial intelligence, network technology, and law, designing a series of distinctive courses under the theme of “Law + Technology”. The “Law + Technology” Talent Cultivation Model of Law was awarded the First Prize of Beijing Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award in 2017. The School has been approved by the Ministry of Education for the project of “Law Practice Teaching Base”, which strengthens the cultivation of students’ legal practice ability by establishing law practice teaching bases with more than 20 governmental units, and setting up a dual tutoring system for joint cultivation. Students have consistently achieved championships and the title of Best Advocate in competitions such as the Beijing Student Moot Court Competition, Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, and the Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition.

“Even mountains and seas cannot distance people with common aspirations.” The School of Law of BIT carries out extensive international exchanges and cooperation to enhance the strength of its disciplines and promote the internationalization of education. The School of Law has established partnerships with the law schools and legal research institutions of several world-renowned universities. As one of the first batch of units undertaking the “International Cooperation Program for Cultivation of Innovative Talents” of the China Scholarship Council, the school annually selects students to participate in academic conferences, short-term academic visits, or pursue degrees abroad. The school also invites distinguished foreign professors to participate in teaching each year. Simultaneously, an international law program entirely taught in English has been established, and the courses are open to all students majoring in law.
